POSITION OVERVIEW
The Living History Program Coordinator provides essential operating support to the Curator of Living History by helping to plan, develop, and implement living history programming at Colonial Fort Condé, a site of the History Museum of Mobile. The living history program at Colonial Fort Condé provides interactive visitor experiences for adults and children, locals and tourists. The goal of the program is to provide consistent and exemplary visitor experiences that are educational and enjoyable and that engage visitors in Mobile’s colonial history.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position works under the general direction of the Curator of Living History to plan, coordinate, and implement the day-to-day operations and activities of the Fort Condé living history program.
Typical duties include, but are not limited, to:
• Research and write about colonial Mobile for exhibitions, programming, and interactive experiences at Fort Condé • Provide logistical planning of workshops and events.
• Learn about life in colonial Mobile and instruct living history interpreters on that history.
• Develop relationships with living history interpreters in the community. • Work collaboratively with the Curator of Living History to implement existing programs and to develop new ones.
• Coordinate across Museum departments to implement events and programs at the various Museum campuses.
• Assist with responding to enquiries and requests for information in a timely and professional manner.
• Greet guests in a friendly and courteous manner, and give them information about Fort Condé and the History Museum of Mobile.
• Acts as secondary supervisor when the Curator of Living History is offsite.
• Actively participate in living history demonstrations and outreach opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in history, museum studies, archeology, art history, education, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of at least two (2) years of practical work experience in program coordination, living history, or a museum environment is preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Strong research skills and familiarity with historical primary sources.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate and implement complex events, in collaboration with other staff members.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Normal office and significant outdoor environment. This position involves sitting, bending, and walking and standing for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds is also required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand and wrist motion is also necessary. This position’s schedule would require the ability to work weekends as the set schedule is Wednesday – Sunday.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Full-time, 40-hour per week position. Salary negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. This position is also eligible for dental, vision, and health insurance.
