The Rogers Historical Museum in Rogers, Arkansas is seeking a Historical Preservation Coordinator. The Historic Preservation Coordinator will manage Historical Registration of Places projects for Benton County in compliance with local, state, and federal historic preservation regulations and initiatives, conduct research, provide technical guidance, and contribute to the development and implementation of historic preservation programs. This position will support the museum’s mission to preserve and promote the rich historical resources in Benton County, Arkansas. This is a full-time position that will last for two years. Annual salary is 45,000-50,000.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conduct thorough research on the historical and cultural significance of properties, buildings, and sites within the county, including gathering information from historical records, maps, and other sources.2. Provides professional expertise in Arkansas history and historical development, and the research and documentation of historic properties in Arkansas
3. Assists with the processes and makes recommendations regarding assessment of current listings and eligibility of new submissions
4. Assists with the preparation of applications for historic designations (e.g., National Register of Historic Places), grant applications, and other preservation-related projects.
5. Provide technical guidance and advice to property owners, developers, and other stakeholders on historic preservation standards, regulations, and best practices
6. Provides owners with upkeep and maintenance guidance and grant assistance, if needed.
7. Develop and deliver educational materials, presentations, and workshops to promote public awareness and understanding of historic preservation
8. Conducts site visits as necessary, including off-hour meetings.
9. Work collaboratively with historical organizations (i.e., museums, societies) in Benton County, state and federal agencies, community organizations, and the public on historic preservation initiatives.
10. Maintain accurate and organized records of all research, projects, and communications related to historic preservation.
11. Perform any other duties as required or assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in history, archeology, architecture, historical preservation, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR two (2) years of experience in historic preservation, research, or directly related field.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The Historic Preservation Coordinator must be able to work independently, under the supervision of the museum’s Director. Previous work experience in historic preservation is preferred. The ideal candidate should have a passion for local history and historic preservation. In addition to a sharp attention to detail and organization, the ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to work independently in following instructions to complete assigned tasks. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are a must.
