    The primary purpose of graphic designer is to independently and collaboratively design and implement informational, educational, and promotional materials—including marketing and web collateral as priority, and exhibitions, publications, digital materials, environmental signage, and branding systems.


    Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Collaborates with exhibit teams, editors, educators, curators, artifact specialists, researchers, administrators, exhibit designers/ builders, and IT specialists. 
    • Provides advice regarding graphic design, design standards, digital graphics, production techniques, scheduling, and cost estimates.
    • Designs and develops branding systems, with digital and print promotional work. Creates ads for special events and programs; produces social media ads, creates digital formatting setup that aligned with museum marketing and branding strategies.
    • Determines the effectiveness of typography and design layout, photographic images, and illustrations. 
    • Designs and develops large two-dimensional label panels for permanent, traveling, and temporary exhibitions. 
    • Designs and develops exhibition graphics, including logos, text/graphic labels, illustrations, charts, murals, web-based graphics, and interactive digital content to enhance the museum’s online presence. 
    • Designs and develops publications: magazines, brochures, newsletters, posters, and so on; produces digital file setup and specifications for the printer on contract while complying with design standards.
    • Determines the quality and scale of final design and output while complying with design standards. 
    • Creates engaging visuals tailored for social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, aligned with the museum’s branding and marketing strategies. 
    • Designs and develops informational wayfinding signage systems, as needed. 

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

    Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

    • Proficiency working with computers and advanced graphic applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., Adobe Express,  Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator).
    • Thorough knowledge of technical and creative design skill set, visual content, design and color theory, typography, photography, and principles associated with the field.
    • Demonstrated experience in web and digital formatting, accessibility, and brand consistency.
    • Knowledge of scale and proportion, for three-dimensional work, specifically exhibition, signage, and environmental design

    Management Prefers:

    • Demonstrated experience supporting the goals of organizations through visually compelling design and integrated media campaigns.
    • Experience with visual brand strategy and implementation.
    • Experience working in a museum or similar setting.
