Job Brief: The Museum Curator II position is a Museum Educator role that manages or coordinates programs and services in the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts Learning + Programs department. The employee will develop and implement programs that provide learning opportunities and unique experiences on-site, online, in schools, and in the community
Work Responsibilities: The following list is an overview of work responsibilities; however, it is not exhaustive, and other duties may be required and assigned.
- Manages all aspects of the Museum’s programs, including training schedules, educational enrichment, studio classes, community events, and outreach programs.
- Conducts training on collections, exhibitions, curriculum-based tour themes, and touring techniques.
- Recruits, trains, and evaluates docents, contract artists, Visitor Services representatives, and program instructors for programs and studio classes.
- Creates programs for the community, students, families, adults, and youth while engaging in community outreach programs and building long-term relationships with community partners.
- Collaborates with departmental staff to prepare grant proposals and related reports, promote educational activities, coordinate programs, oversee data collection and program evaluation, and organize MMFA events and programs.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Art Education, Museum Studies, Art History, Design, Studio Art, Art Therapy, or a related field and at least two years of experience in a museum, education program, school, or university.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
