    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
    The Regional Museum Division Director supervises the operations, and coordinates the exhibits, publicity and community programming and outreach of the Louisiana State Museum-Capitol Park. Thibodaux, Natchitoches and Patterson working under the direction of the Office of State Museum's Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary.

    35% Coordinates, supervises and manages the operations of regional sites, overseeing  a staff comprised of administrative and curatorial. Coordinates the work of all subordinate staff. Makes assignments, directs the work, and evaluates work of subordinates. Conducts performance planning and reviews. Counsels and disciplines subordinates when necessary on performance issues. Approves annual and sick leave requests. Makes recommendations regarding merit increases to appointing authority. Interviews job applications, make hiring recommendations to the appointing authority.
     
    25% Actively seeks to increase awareness and engagement of the Museum within the greater, cultural academic, and philanthropic communities. Makes presentation to community and interest groups promoting the Louisiana State Museum, its exhibits and programming. Attends community and special events conferences promoting museum activities. Works with the Public Information Director to prepare brochure for promoting museum activities. Greets the public and schedules and conducts VIP tours of the facilities.

    20% Plans, organizes and coordinates curatorial functions for Community Programs and Collections of regional sites, working in consultation with the LSM Interpretive Services, Education, and Collections Division Directors.

    15% Prepares management reports such as budget proposals. personnel, operational activities and vehicle use. Approves routine purchase request of the sites. Establishes a procedure for admission receipts and bank deposits.

    5% Performs other duties assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
    Regional Director and Branch option:
    A baccalaureate degree plus four years of professional level museum experience.

    SUBSTITUTIONS:
    A master's degree in the above qualifying fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.

    A Ph.D. in any qualifying field will substitute for two years of the required experience.

    NOTE:
    Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

    NOTE:                                                                                                                                 Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

    Function of Work:
    To direct the work activities of a major division in the State Museum; to serve as a regional director over the branch museums in a region of the State of Louisiana; or to manage and direct the operations of a large and complex branch museum in a metropolitan area such as the Capitol Park Branch Museum in Baton Rouge.

    DIVISION DIRECTOR POSITIONS:
    Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the work activities of a major division for the State Museum.

    Coordinates work by scheduling assignments and directing the work of subordinate curators.

    Directs arrangements for the receipt or rejection of accessions to the museum; plans and arranges for expansion of collection.

    Supervises the accessing and cataloging of materials for museum records.

    Schedules and supervises the periodic inventory of collections for signs of deterioration; directs the repair and conservation of articles as necessary.

    Performs the more technical research to identify and interpret museum collections.

    REGIONAL POSITIONS:
    Coordinates, supervises and manages the curatorial, operations, maintenance and law enforcement activities for their branch museum and Branch Museum Directors in the their region by inspections, review of financial and administrative reports and budget requests, conferences, training sessions, and coordination of major construction, repairs or expenditures, and interpretive programming.

    Develops, prepares and monitors budget recommendations for personnel services, equipment and materials; prepares purchase requests and makes needed purchases;
    maintains fiscal records; prepares reports, correspondence and plans; recommends policies and procedures for regional operations.

    Meets with civic and governmental groups to promote region and site use by public relations.

    Coordinates public relations by meeting with civil foundations and governmental groups to promote region and site.

    Supervises the maintenance and use of buildings and grounds for support functions and/or staff. Coordinates branch and site level work by scheduling and managing the work of subordinate staff; trains staff; inspects building, grounds and equipment to insure that proper safety, security and maintenance procedures and standards are being met.

    Coordinates pre-bid, pre-construction and final inspection meetings on repair projects within the southern region.

    BRANCH POSITIONS:
    Selects and trains staff; assigns and evaluates the work of all subordinate branch museum personnel. Coordinates work by scheduling assignments and directing the work of subordinates at branch museum.

    Prepares management reports such as budget proposals, personnel, operational activities, visitation, and vehicle use. Prepares purchase requests and makes purchases.

    Plans, proposes, coordinates, supervises and participates in general maintenance, minor repairs, contracted construction and programs.

    Conducts correspondence relative to the branch museum.

    Cooperates with Museum Division Directors of Collections and Programs in planning, organizing and coordinating curatorial functions within the branch museum.

    Performs literary and field research on the culture, archaeology or history of the area, prepares brochures from information obtained and assists with the planning and arranging of exhibits.

    Presents lectures and attends special events and conferences promoting branch museum activities.

    Greets the public and schedules and conducts tours of the facility.
