TITLE: Associate Curator of Art and Exhibitions
REPORTS TO: Curator of Art and Exhibitions & Executive Director
STATUS: Part-time, 20 hours/week, $20/hour
The Associate Curator of Art and Exhibitions is an integral member of the museum’s team, supporting the development, production, and presentation of exhibitions and collections. This role combines curatorial practice, project coordination, and digital content creation to help deliver thoughtful, visually engaging, and accessible experiences for the public.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update the museum’s permanent collection database, including accurate cataloging and digital image management.
- Support the care, storage, and organization of the permanent collection in accordance with museum standards.
- Maintain comprehensive exhibition records in both physical and digital formats.
- Participate in the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions.
- Implement the exhibition calendar in collaboration with the Curator.
- Prepare and process exhibition loan agreements and Deeds of Gift for acquisitions.
- Assist the Curator with coordination for exhibiting artists, lenders, and partner organizations.
- Design and produce exhibition materials, including wall labels, didactics, and exhibition documents, using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.
- Organize, edit, and maintain digital image assets for exhibitions, publications, and marketing, ensuring proper formatting and file management.
- Contribute to special projects and institutional initiatives in support of the Executive Director.
- Provide cross-departmental support as needed to advance the museum’s programs and operations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable design and photo-editing tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prepare digital images and files for multiple uses.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability and initiative.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Fine Arts, Art History, or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in a museum, gallery, or arts organization preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Able to physically prepare exhibits, which may include lifting, walking, standing, kneeling, or climbing.
