ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Senior Preparator at Mobile Museum of Art is responsible for designing, preparing, and installing engaging exhibitions that elevate the museum experience. This role involves collaborating with curators and other museum staff to develop permanent and temporary exhibits, executing visual layouts, and overseeing all aspects of the exhibit, including lighting, materials, and audiovisual components. The Senior Preparator also manages the logistics of traveling exhibitions, supervises installation teams and contractors, and ensures that all displays meet professional museum standards. This position requires a blend of creative problem-solving, technical skill, and hands-on expertise to support the museum’s mission of inspiring and educating through art.
A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, commercial art, industrial design, or a closely related field, and a minimum of three years of experience in a museum, preferably including some related construction, model making, or graphics experience, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements is desired.
The position reports to the Curator of Art and Audience Engagement.
This position may require the individual to work irregular hours.

ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Since its founding in 1963 as a public/private entity then known as the “Mobile Art Gallery,” Mobile Museum of Art (MMofA) has evolved into the only accredited art museum in south Alabama, with a collection of over 6,400 artworks comprised of painting, sculpture, decorative arts, works on paper, and crafts.
Today, MMofA continues to evolve in its service to the community, achieved through its programs, education, exhibitions, and outreach. MMofA’s outreach activities include on-site classes, a partnership with the Salvation Army’s Family Haven, as well as a “Pop-Up Museum” installation in downtown Mobile. The Art Museum maintains a schedule of rotating, special exhibitions and collection exhibitions, including work by regional artists and exhibitions featuring work by nationally and internationally recognized artists.
