    Job Title:                                   Museum Manager Position # (2551)

    Salary:                                      Pay Grade 11; Hiring Rate:  $46,904

                                                    Provisions of Personnel Ordinance for Promotion/Demotion/Transfer

    Work Schedule:                         8:00 am - 5:00 pm; M-F. Must attend Commissioners’ meetings, public hearings, etc.

    This position has been determined to be non-exempt under the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

    MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:  High School Diploma or accredited GED is required. A B.A. or B.S. Degree in History, Museum Studies, Education, or a related field is highly desired. A minimum of three years’ relevant museum experience is preferred. Familiarity with Georgia history and standardized education requirements is suggested; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess strong leadership and organizational skills. Attain (within six (6) months of employment) a valid Adult CPR/AED certification.

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Under general supervision, oversees the daily operations, staff, and strategic direction of Our Legacy Museum. This is a non-exempt full-time position. Overtime may be required. Reports to the Leisure Services Director.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines such as a personal computer, copier, etc. Must use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials.  Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds force frequently.  Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work.  Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of twenty to forty pounds.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

    ALL FUNCTIONS MAY NOT BE PERFORMED BY ALL INCUMBENTS.

    Operations Management:

    Manages day-to-day operations of the museum including visitor experiences, security, safety and facility maintenance. Creates management policies.

    Develops and manages online store and retail sales in accordance with the County Procurement Policy.

    Manages reporting and fiscal accounting of museum activity and business via web-based programs.

    Maintains a strategic plan to sustain museum operations.

    Maintains records of all programs, participation and services in accordance with the County Records Retention Policy. 

    Utilizes Microsoft Office Suite, web-based programs for work orders, program registrations, point of sale, museum collections management, schedules, etc.

    Marketing and Visibility:

    Manages marketing and promotion to attract tours and guest visits. Utilizes Canva or other approved marketing development tools to increase public visibility.

    Manages the digital face of Our Legacy Museum through social media and email communication. Manages website content utilizing WordPress.

    Community Engagement:

    Designs educational programs, coordinates events, and promotes public relations to increase community awareness.

    Manages events and program operations through various internet software such as Microsoft Office to complete daily tasks, research and write historical narratives, perform data entry, run reports, and create promotional materials.

    Manages Museum Steering Committee business meetings and correspondence.

    Represents Spalding County on local tourism committees and Historical Society. Conducts presentations at public and civic meetings and events.

    Engages with local school system to facilitate student learning opportunities which meet academic requirements.

    Curation:

    Manages the museum’s collections and artifacts within a Collections Management Policy. Utilizes Descript, CatalogIt, or other web-based programs.  Manages the collection and preservation of oral histories.

    Oversees and/or conducts historical research. Composes historical narratives.

    Policy Development:

    Develops guest services and policies.

    Exhibits and Collections:

    Prepares the annual budget, tracks revenues and expenses, and completes all necessary financial reports.

    Budgeting, Reporting and Fundraising:

    Works to develop non-tax revenue resources including donations, partnerships, and fees.

    Sources additional museum funding through grant sources in collaboration with County Grant Writer.

    Prepares monthly, periodic, special, and annual reports.

    Staff and Volunteer Management:

    Recruits, trains, directs, and coordinates volunteers for tours, work duties, and special projects.

    Manages staff.  Conducts interviews, makes recommendation for hire. Trains, evaluates, and coaches staff.

    Promotes safety in the workplace for individuals of all abilities.

    Programming and Guest Experiences:

    Oversees the creation of special events and guest experiences.

    Conducts historical research and analysis on Our Legacy Museum’s collection, participates in the collection of oral histories, and maintains industry standards.

    Aids in the creation of museum interpretation and programming.

    Performs other related duties as required.
