    8.5 Month Interim Position

    $25.00 per hour   

    Come join the Nation’s Finest! Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site in Wickliffe, KY, seeks an interim Parks Museum Curator [NAGPRA Review Coordinator]. Wickliffe Mounds is an archaeological site of a Native American village of the Mississippian culture. The park has a museum, artifact collections, exhibits, and a curation building. The Parks Museum Curator [NAGPRA Review Coordinator] position supervises, organizes, and manages the artifact collections, serves as the site's Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Review Coordinator, assists in the documentation and implementation of NAGPRA compliance by inventorying NAGPRA collections and other duties as assigned. The curator conducts osteological documentation of human remains and assesses the archaeological collections for additional NAGPRA materials.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Identifies, assesses, and analyzes the site's archaeological collections for NAGPRA compliance and adherence to applicable state and federal regulations; performs cataloging and inventorying of the collections and enters appropriate information in the collections management database.
    • Conducts osteological documentation of human remains and assesses archaeological collections for additional NAGPRA materials.
    • Creates inventories and summaries of NAGPRA collections (human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony) in accordance with NAGPRA protocol and prepares collections for repatriation.
    • Develops a written plan and procedures regarding the discovery, exhibition, storage, access, and research of NAGPRA collections.
    • Assists the Park Manager in planning and participating in consultations with Tribal Nations.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements:

    EDUCATION: Graduate of college or university with a master’s degree

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Osteology

    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in archaeology, artifact analysis, osteology, archaeological laboratory methods, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver’s license prior to employment in this job classification.

    Working Conditions:

    Primarily works inside and deals with the general public.
