    SIGNALS – Museum of Information Explosion, Huntsville, AL seeks to find a highly self-motivated leader responsible for the day-to-day operations of this new museum.  Its mission is to educate the community and visitors on the history of scientists, engineers, and business leaders who brought about a series of technology advances beginning with the telegraph leading to modern day cell phones.

    Position

    Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for SIGNALS Museum staff, programs, volunteers, fundraising, and all aspects of communication in the execution of its mission.  S/he will develop a knowledge of the field, core programs, operations and business plan and participate in setting the strategic plan to advance the goals of the museum.

    Responsibilities:

    • ·         Actively engage and energize volunteers, board members, partnering organizations, and funders
    • ·         Lead, coach, develop, and retain a knowledgeable, customer friendly staff.
    • ·         Ensure ongoing quality educational programs with a focus on science and technology; and create evaluation methods to measure and track the successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents
    • ·         Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations while simultaneously retiring debt
    • ·         Work with the Board of Trustees to create fundraising objectives; implement strategies to achieve goals, including emphasis on deepening relationships with donors and finding new donors to increase major gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, as well as governmental opportunities
    • ·         Hire and engage, as necessary, contractors to ensure quality programs, functioning exhibitions and facilities, and deepened communications - from web presence to external relations, with a goal of creating a quality experience for the visitor and a strong brand in the community
    • ·         Create and operate within established budgets, perform basic bookkeeping duties, and manage the financial goals of the museum as established by the board of trustees.  Monitor, analyze and report on the financial condition of the museum to the board on a timely basis.
    • ·         Actively network and bring forward ideas for growth and sustainability of the museum. Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.

    Qualifications:

    The ED will be thoroughly committed to the mission of SIGNALS Museum.  All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching and relationship management experience in addition to:

    • ·         Bachelor’s degree, with at least 5 years of senior management experience in a museum or other related field
    • ·         Strong fundraising experience and ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
    • ·         Track record of effectively leading a museum or similar performance and outcomes-based organization and staff
    • ·         Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff and volunteers, set strategic objectives, and manage a budget
    • ·         Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • ·         Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
    • ·         Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
    • ·         Ability to stand, sit, crawl, lift up to 50 pounds
    • ·         Ability to work evenings and weekends
