    The National WWII Museum is seeking applications for a dynamic, creative, organized, and energetic individual for the position of Youth and Family Engagement Specialist.  The Youth and Family Engagement Specialist develops, manages, and evaluates educational programs and resources for youth and family audiences on site at the Museum, offsite within the Greater New Orleans area, and virtually for our national audiences. This position works within the Public Engagement department, as part of the larger education and access team, to design and develop family and youth programs and resources related to permanent collections and special exhibitions including, intergenerational family programs, summer camps, scouting events, virtual programs, and other age appropriate programs for younger audiences and their families. The Youth and Family Engagement Specials reports to and works closely with the Director of Public Engagement to establish accessible educational outreach programs for youth audiences in the community, regionally, and nationally.

    Responsibilities:

    • Create, implement and evaluate educational family and youth programs that highlight themes within the museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, including our annual Family Block Party, Scout Week, and more.
    • Hire, train, manage, and evaluate the summer camp program, including working with contracted instructors and interns to research and write activities, market to community groups, coordinate summer camp registration and program implementation.
    • Reach new audiences through the continued development, implementation and evaluation of innovative on-site youth and family programs through collaboration with a variety of community partners that compliment program initiatives and educational goals.
    • Work closely with staff across the Museum on implementation of programs, including staff in the Jenny Craig Institute for the Study of War and Democracy, Event Rentals, Security, Operations, Curatorial Services, Exhibitions, Visitor Services, Membership, Retail, and Finance.
    • Collaborate with the Curatorial and Exhibitions team to advocate for family, youth, and local audiences in the exhibition process, including in educational materials, programs, and interactives.
    • Represent the Museum and Education Department at community-based programs and events.
    • Provide support for the Museum’s other public programs, including veteran, military, and interpretive programs.
    • Works to ensure youth and family audiences are included in Education Department initiatives, including curriculum, teacher and student programs, and interpretation.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in education, history, or related field and three years’ experience working in a museum, public history program or other educational environment planning programs, particularly related to youth audiences; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing a wide variety of informal, inclusive education programs for children including conception, planning, and communicating among multiple departments, delivery, and evaluation for diverse audiences.
    • Experience with and understanding of youth and family program best practices and industry standards.
    • Experience conducting public programs through virtual platforms, such as Zoom, Vimeo, and others.
    • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
    • A driven advocate with a passion for creative thinking, while taking the initiative.
    • A self-starter with strong time-management skills to balance workloads, meet deadlines and coordinate efforts across a large organization and the ability to work independently with minimal direction on some projects, while working as part of a team on others.
    • Ability to work with learners of all ages and abilities.
    • Willingness to work evenings and some weekends.
    • Willingness to travel regionally in support of the Museum’s public engagement and outreach efforts.
    • Ability to push, pull, and lift weights up to 50 pounds. May require prolonged sitting, standing, and/or walking during which time objects are transported. May require bending, squatting, or reaching and occasional use of equipment
