Program Manager - Truth + Transformation Initiative at National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, GA

    The National Center for Civil and Human Rights (The Center) is an engaging museum and cultural organization located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, which connects the American Civil Rights Movement to today’s ongoing struggle for human rights. The Center is seeking a Program Manager to support our Truth + Transformation Initiative, which seeks to help the broader Atlanta community engage honestly with American history, in particular about racial violence, through memorialization, commemoration, public education, curricular materials, and civic engagement.

    Role Summary 

    The T + T Program Manager works closely with the Director of T + T in support of the success of the initiatives’ several programs, projects, and goals.  To be successful in this role, one must have a passion for the mission, core values and vision of The Center, with a demonstrated interest in and ability to engage with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and perspectives.  The right candidate will be comfortable navigating multiple tasks and competing priorities; demonstrating strong project and time management skills; and managing external stakeholder partnerships.

    Reports To: DJ Sims, Director of Truth + Transformation Initiative 

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with the Director of Truth + Transformation and Lead Coordinator to enhance partner engagement and collaboration processes
    • Conduct efforts to advance community outreach within Atlanta and nationally to involve new organizations and community leaders in the initiative
    • Work with various teams to design and implement programs and resources for a diverse range of audiences
    • Lead advocacy and public education initiatives related to the program's goals
    • Create written materials and collateral to support initiative programs and events
    • Perform administrative and operational tasks - including co‐planning and co‐facilitating monthly partner meetings and project team meetings - to ensure the achievement of strategic goals
    • Assist in the planning and execution of logistics for meetings, programs, and events as directed by the T + T Director
    • Provide senior level executive support by managing departmental project plans, databases, and documents
    • Manage strategic partnerships with civil rights and racial justice experts at the national, state, and local levels
    • Manage project consultants (strategic communication, education, research, copywriting) in collaboration with internal and external staff, including scope of work and deliverables
    • Conduct research, gather, and evaluate data related to the initiative's subject matter and develop program quality control systems
    • Assist in fundraising efforts by providing program‐specific content for grant and sponsorship proposals and reports
    • Collaborate to maintain the initiative's website and presentation materials at high‐quality standards
    • Manage microgrant fund program including all budgetary processes, developing grant reporting metrics, overseeing the grant application processes, developing grant award notifications, and managing promotion of grant funding announcements
    • Prioritize and establish protocols to ensure the active participation of communities most affected by the initiative's mission
    • Contribute to external partner forums, symposiums, and engagements on behalf of The Center or T+T Initiative
    • Develop processes and records to document program activities
    • Advise on departmental strategic planning

    Core Competencies 

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
    • Three to five years’ experience supporting programs utilizing project management skills.
    • Operates within anti‐racist, social justice frameworks when approaching tasks, community, and colleagues
    • Highly organized with strong administrative skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to complete tasks independently and self‐directed, while staying regularly connected with the Director and other colleagues to ensure consistency
    • Ability to work collaboratively and bridge the gap with partners and stakeholders with a diverse range of ideological approaches
    • Strategic thinker with excellent research, prioritization, conceptualization, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
    • Experience or familiarity with community advocacy at the state and local level in Georgia
    • Ability to think ‘big picture’ as well as translate ideas into realistic, actionable plans
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on clear articulation of complex concepts and topics
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn and utilize other commonly used business technology tools such Adobe, Slack, project management software, etc.
    • Ability to work a variable schedule based upon the needs of the organization and T+T Initiative activities. Occasional evening and weekend availability will be required
    • Community organizing experience is a plus.
    • Experience at a non-profit, public history organization, or cultural institution is a plus.

    Compensation     Salary Range:  $55,000 - $62,000 Annually + Paid Leave & Benefits
