    Position Summary
    The Programming Assistant is an integral member of the Performing Arts team who contributes to the programmatic vision through curatorial and administrative support. A strong interest in and experience with performing arts is required. Through curatorial research and administration, the Programming Assistant supports an active team in the research, planning and implementation of a wide range of Performing Arts programming including: Dance, Theater, Performance Art, Music, Film and Residencies.

    The incumbent will be in regular communication with artists and their representatives, external contractors, and community partners. They will be knowledgeable of all programs in the Performing arts Department and act as a bridge between idea generation, practical production and audience experience. Depending on the background and experience of the incumbent, this role will also include developing programs under the supervision of the Programmers.
    The Programming Assistant regularly performs administrative tasks that are complex in nature and require considerable discretion and confidentiality. The Programming Assistant must be consistently professional, approachable, proactive, and be able to organize and balance multiple tasks. Regularly, the Programming Assistant will be responsible for working across multiple, overlapping timelines and insuring all external and inter-departmental communications are clear, timely, and documented.

    The Programming Assistant reports jointly to the Programmer, Theater & Dance and Programmer, Music & Festivals, and works closely with the other members of the Performing Arts department, as well as with team members in Operations, Box Office, Communications, Engagement, Visual Arts, Special Events and other colleagues within Crystal Bridges.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Assist Programmers with research and content development for the ongoing program of performances, presentations, commissions, and artist residencies
    • Assist Programmers with writing, including program notes, program descriptions, marketing copy, wall texts, content guides for use internally, and catalogue entries
    • Deliver programs under the supervision of the Programmers
    • Assist in the design, development and presenting of internal and external share outs
    • Assist with development, maintenance, and monitoring of Performing Arts budget
    • Lead venue tours and brief staff and volunteers on program details
    • Assist in providing organizational support for Performing Arts projects, including scheduling project meetings, booking meeting rooms, preparing agendas and sending out notes focused on next steps
    • Manage incoming telephone calls, e-mail and written correspondence for programmers
    • Assist with review and execution of contracts
    • Coordinate Performing Arts interns and volunteers
    • Assists organizing, maintaining, and archiving project files and documentation
    • Assists with project management of Performing Arts projects, working closely with the programmers, production team, internal departments, and various outside vendors

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education, Training, and Traits

    • Associate or Bachelors degree in Arts Administration, Curating, Art History or equivalent degree/experience required
    • Knowledge of Performing Arts including music, theater, dance, performance art required. Familiarity with Visual Arts desirable
    • Proven experience and success in project coordination and in meeting deadlines within fast-paced working environments
    • Experience with (or the ability to learn) specialized software systems is required, including TMS, EMS, Power Plan, and Financial Edge
    • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team
    • Ability to maintain the highest ethics as they relate to all aspects of curatorial endeavor and to understand and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion Work Experience
    • Minimum two years work experience in an arts environment, with performing arts experience preferred

    Licenses and Certifications:

    • Ability to obtain Passport for international travel

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and One Note
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current practices in producing events, supporting residencies or equivalent experience

    • Physical demands: Occasionally, while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to travel independently regionally and in communities served. In the work environment described below, position requires working at a desk and utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination. Vision abilities required by the job include close and distant vision. The person in this position will require the capability to move and be present onsite for extended periods of time during all phases of bump in, tech, rehearsal, presentation and bump out, and be able to navigate through the different Museum buildings and on the trails and grounds. When working in public spaces and performing arts venues, physical stamina is needed to lift and carry supplies, and at times, assist with other presentation related elements. Unimpaired hearing is required for this job.
    • Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, performance venues, museum spaces, and outdoors. When not in the office, the employee will be spending extensive amounts of time in the Museum buildings, grounds, and performance spaces. The noise level in the Museum work environment is usually low to moderate. Outdoor work will include walking the museums trails in a variety of weather conditions, and occasionally at night.

    Sculpture and walking trails link the museum's 120-acre park to downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. A new entrance, elevator tower, and pedestrian bridge was added to the north side of the building in 2017, increasing access to the museums north lawn and newly enhanced North Forest Trail. More than 600,000 visitors a year utilize the museums five miles of walking trails.

    Crystal Bridges permanent collection spans five centuries of American artworks from early American to the present, and is always free to view. Crystal Bridges is committed to telling broad and inclusive stories by acquiring and showcasing the highest quality works by artists

    The Momentary is a new contemporary art space that opened to the public on February 22, 2020, in downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. A satellite to Crystal Bridges, the Momentary presents visual, performing, and culinary arts.
