    Primary Purpose of the Position:

    The North Carolina Museum of History is looking for a Historical Publications Editor that will provide editorial services for the Museum of History staff to include substantive reviews, copyedits, and proofing of materials. This position will also manage the production of two publications from development to print/posting: the museum magazine Circa, which is published twice a year, and the Program Calendar, which is normally printed every two months. This position will also serve as the editor for the museum’s website and for social media platforms. In addition, this position will edit materials, as needed, for the regional museums and the NC Museum of History Associates support group and the NC Museum of History Foundation. The Historical Publications Editor facilitates meetings and prioritizes projects. The Historical Publications Editor is detail oriented and organized and communicates and writes effectively.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

    Qualified candidates must have or be able to do: 


    • Demonstrated experience in evaluating, editing, and proofreading materials. 
    • Demonstrated experience using style manuals, preferably the Chicago Manual of Style, and grammar books.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement project timelines and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of North Carolina history.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of museum interpretive philosophy.
    • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite software.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of desktop publishing programs, such as InDesign.
    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Master's degree in English, journalism, history, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or

    Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, history, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a profession requiring research and/or editing as a major job skill; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Supplemental and Contact Information
