The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) and the six regional museum associations (the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums, Association of Midwest Museums, Mountain-Plains Museums Association, New England Museums Association, Southeastern Museums Conference, and Western Museums Association) are proud to present the 2014 National Museum Salary Survey, the only comprehensive study of its kind for our diverse field.
Such a survey has long been demanded by museum professionals across the country, at all stages of their careers, and we are confident this document will prove valuable. It includes detailed analysis of 51 different museum positions in a broad range of categories, both museum-related and individual. In light of the buffeting the field experienced during the recent economic downturn, we’ve also commented on employment patterns post-2008.
An invaluable tool for museum directors and personnel managers, the Salary Survey covers more than 51positions in every museum department. Salaries are reported by institutional budget and discipline. The survey includes statistics about education, gender, and part-time professionals. Data is drawn from Southeastern museums as of December 2013. (99 pgs., pdf)
