    Job Position: Education and Outreach Coordinator at the Sumter County Museum

    The Sumter County Museum (Sumter, SC) seeks an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual for a new full time position as the Education and Outreach Coordinator.  The Education and Outreach Coordinator will work to strengthen the museum's role in the community through our educational programs and school outreach.  This individual will work with the Executive Director and Backcountry Manager to maintain and improve established programs, while also planning and implementing new programming for all ages.

    Primary Responsibilities: Create Meaningful Educational Experiences for Audiences of All Ages with Diverse Programming and Events

    Duties to Include:

    1. Maintain and improve older programs 

    a. Work with Backcountry Manager to coordinate 3 annual living history events- Harvest in October, Christmas in December, and Spring in May

    b. Coordinate 3rd grade tours in October with Junior Welfare League Puppet Chair, Museum Director, and volunteers

    2. Assist with tours and training of docents for the upcoming Temple Sinai exhibit (opening late 2017)

    3. Develop and implement new programming to include school group visits with references to South Carolina curriculum standards throughout the year as well as events geared towards families

    4. Create and prepare marketing materials for educational programs as well as teacher resources

    5. Schedule and conduct tours

    6. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers

    7. Assist Director in maintaining membership database, preparing membership mailings, and recruiting new members

    8. Assist with special events as needed

    9. Perform other duties as instructed by Director

    Necessary Skills:

    Bachelor's Degree in History, Public History, Education, or Related Field Required

    Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field

    Must be familiar with or willing to learn late 18th century homestead skills (cooking, spinning and weaving, etc.) in order to demonstrate these skills to visitors

    Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs

    Must be highly organized and efficient with proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

    Excellent writing and speaking skills.  Professional demeanor and comfort interacting with the public and museum volunteers
